L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files

Search for clues by grabbing, inspecting and manipulating objects in virtual reality crime thriller.

L.A. Noire is a neo-noir detective action-adventure video game made by Rockstar Games. It places you directly in the shoes of Detective Cole Phelps as you solve brutal crimes, plots and conspiracies inspired by real cases from 1947 Los Angeles, one of the most corrupt and violent times in L.A. history. It is a dark and violent crime thriller set against the backdrop of 1940’s Los Angeles, now in stunning virtual reality. Featuring seven cases rebuilt specifically for virtual reality, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files for HTC Vive adds new layers of immersion and realism to Rockstar Games’ atmospheric crime thriller as you solve select cases from the blockbuster original game, spanning mysteries from the Detective desks of Traffic, Arson, Homicide, and more.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files Review

Very Good

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files is a very impressive re-imagining into VR. L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files was a very good experience after getting used to the in game mechanics and locomotion. Obviously, with any new VR game you will have to expect things to be done differently and in this case being an action adventure game you get just that. What a pleasure this game is to play. Driving around is fun and who would have guessed that boxing would be that exhilarating. The technique of arm swinging to walk is surprisingly good but sometimes you do overshoot the mark. Everything looks so clean and smooth and crisp at the same time. When you start in your office and look around, the cigar smoke billowing up from the ash tray, the great Noire atmosphere, the soft jazz in the background. If you've got a headset, you owe it to yourself to play this, it really feels like it was originally conceived as a VR title and now it finally has the ability to become one. Well done Rockstar.
