Touhou Luna Nights Review
Touhou Luna Nights is a Metroid-vania spinoff of the Popular Touhou Project Games. The game feels and controls almost like Aria of Sorrow, and Luna Nights seems to take more inspiration from the "vania" half of Metroidvania. It's retro inspired with great graphics and fun game play. In the game you can slow time and even stop time to help get around some of the obstacles. There are warp points in each Stage to accomodate faster travel time, and to ensure you're always able to be several rooms of where you need to be. The soundtrack is fantastic and the sprite work is simply beautiful. With Sakuya's time powers, you'd think right away that this game would be extremely easy. Well, you'd be wrong there. This game will absolutely kick you in the balls, and you'll just keep coming back for more, because my god the gameplay is so good. Now let's talk about the artwork and design, those smooth pixel art animations, Nitori's mecha, the water animation and everything, those are something that I really appreciate. And also how they create the similar atmosphere to Castlevania, which are another reason why I love this game. Visually it's a simplistic yet beautiful designed game and honestly I enjoy how fluid Sakuya's movements are. Enemy sprites vary and are a pleasant sight on the eyes with different colors and animations. There's also a cute light mystery story stringing the player character along. I'm really enjoying this game so far, even though I didn't play it that much. Would recommend to any hard core touhou fans!
